Coming Back From Disaster - Britney Spears Wins First VMA Award, and 2nd, and 3rd
For the last 10 years, the VMAs have been somewhat nomadic, taking over Miami for two years and trying out Las Vegas in 2007, when the Palms Hotel and Casino played host. There were rumors that this time the awards would be held at the Shrine Auditorium, home to the Emmy Awards, but MTV opted for a bigger and perhaps less predictable space.
Las Vegas did sound exciting and promising to hold the VMA’s, but the choice of the Palms was crap . Stars were relaxed, like they were on vacation .
Oh, and my favorite VMA moment: when the Beastie Boys performed “Sabotage” on a rotating stage and afterwards Green Day played a new song from their at the time upcoming CD Insomniac “Armatage Shanks”. Content-wise, the VMAs haven’t been at their best since 1999.
The ultimate irony is that the VMAs aren’t relevant anymore because MTV’s programming is a joke.
The last several years the VMAS have sucked so badly and this year is no exception, the 2008 VMAS might be the worst one yet.
Last years VMAs were the worst I’ve ever seen. At the 2000 VMAs, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera proved that the rumors of their rivalry were fake, as they came onstage, holding hands and introduced Whitney Houston.
At the 2007 VMAs, Chris Brown gave one of the best memorable live performance to ” Billie Jean ” and his own song ” Kiss Kiss “. While he began his performance to ” Wall to Wall “, Rihanna joined him on stage, then he performed to ” Billie Jean ” and ended the performance to his song ” Kiss Kiss “.
In 1999, the VMAs opened with a performance by Kid Rock, Run DMC and Jam master Jay, and Aerosmith. Songs performed were Kings of Rock, Bawitdaba, Rock Box, and Walk this way.
At the 2007 VMAs, Kid Rock and Tommy Lee were involved in an altercation at the Video Music Awards during the come-back performance of Alicia Keys.
