Updated Info on Kimbo Slice Ken Shamrock

“Kimbo Slice Ken Shamrock”

For the first time in his professional mixed martial arts career, heavyweight Kimbo Slice tasted defeat.

Shamrock has been around the game for a very long time, can hype a fight, and has name recognition from his time in the UFC, WWE, and his run on TUF 3.

With fans clamoring for a legitimate opponent, Kimbo’s trainer Bas Rutten reminded everyone that it was only his third professional fight and he would not give into pressure to place his protégé in a bad situation.

Kimbo’s next fight is set for primetime THIS SATURDAY night, October 4th, in the EliteXC: Heat show on CBS, and it will in fact be Kimbo Slice vs. Ken Shamrock.

The fight will take place in Sunnyvale Florida and will mark Kimbo Slice’s fifth professional MMA fight, after Ray Mercer, Bo Cantrell, Tank Abbott, and James Thompson.

When you think of the sport of mixed martial arts in the United States of America, there is one name that comes most readily to mind.

That being said, EliteXC is getting as close to scripting fights as possible in MMA without actually determining the outcomes.

Fights expecting to fight on the undercard, but walked out with a brutal TKO win over one of the sports biggest celebrities — Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson — on national television.

Riding out the lean years in pro wrestling, Shamrock saw the sport make a financial comeback in the land of the rising sun and decided to make another go of it in Pride.

His story is one that appeals to a lot of different types of people and he seems to be taking the sport very seriously.

Living legend Ken Shamrock has a golden opportunity to extend his career in a major way if he can take care of business against Kimbo on October 4.

After Kimbo vs Shamrock was announced, Brett “The Grimm” Rogers started calling out everyone from Kimbo to Dan Severn.

After being invited and taking part in UFC 1 in 1993, he made it to the finals of the tournament where he was choked out by Royce Gracie.

Say what you will about the UFC, at least they give us legitimate fights where the best fighters on their roster fight one another and they let the chips fall where they may.

Thompson was not the most talented fighter in the world, but he presented an experienced fighter very capable of beating Kimbo.

While Ken Shamrock is nothing to brag about on paper these days, Kimbo showed us in his last fight that he himself has a lot of work to do especially in his ground game and grappling is his weakness.

He thought if he called Kimbo out right after fighting Thompson, he’d get the first shot just because it would have everybody talking.

For the people who don’t follow the sport of MMA closely, many will still see Shamrock as a formidable opponent, not realizing his better days are far behind him.

When Kimbo looked less than impressive in a third round TKO win over Thompson, again it wasn’t that Kimbo was improving but rather that Thompson was washed up and not worthy of the stature of the fight.

But this could certainly help his career as a coach, trainer, and MMA personality like his brother Frank Shamrock.

Shamrock was a natural fit for the WWF and with his legitimate fighting background became an instant fan favorite.

One thing is for certain, if Kimbo allows himself to be taken to the floor his grappling will be tested by one of the best in the world.

While he has real skills, particularly in submissions, he just gets knocked out way too easily these days.

That being said, you don’t know if his next fight is going to be against a legitimate opponent like Brett Rogers or if it’s going to be against Doink The Clown.
