News Update: Fiesta Econetic
Mumbai: The new Fiesta ECOnetic achieves new levels of low-CO2 efficiency, which makes it the most frugal car from the Ford stables, according to Ford.
Billed as the most frugal Ford ever, the 2009 Ford Fiesta ECOnetic is a special version of Ford’s small Euro hatch.
Cologne, September 5, 2008 Bringing style and new levels of low-CO2 efficiency, Ford of Europe’s most frugal car – the new Fiesta ECOnetic – heads the Fiesta range at this year’s Paris Show.
Ford of Europe introduced the Fiesta ECOnetic—the most fuel-efficient model in the European range—at the British International Motor Show in London.
The 89hp 1.6L TCDi diesel is also rated at a mere 98g/km CO2, and with a starting price of just £11,845 and available in either three-door or five-door variations, both rated at identical efficiency values, the Fiesta EcoNetic is a serious bargain in addition to being a hybrid-killer.
“But there are business reasons why we can’t sell it in the U.S.” The main one: The Fiesta ECOnetic runs on diesel.
Automakers such as Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz have predicted for years that a technology called “clean diesel” would overcome many Americans’ antipathy to a fuel still often thought of as the smelly stuff that powers tractor trailers.
Updated: Ford’s focus on fuel efficiency hops into the front seat with the debut of the new Fiesta EcoNetic at this week’s London Motor Show.
At the British Motor Show in London, Ford has unveiled the most fuel efficient version yet of the new Fiesta, the ECOnetic model.
Original: Ford’s EcoNetic program will be seeing some of the fruits of its labor soon with the introduction of a new highly-economical Ford Fiesta.
At the British International Motor Show, Ford has introduced the ECOnetic version of its Ford Fiesta.
Oh yes, and the car is made by Ford Motor , known widely for lumbering gas hogs.
In this case the car is equipped with a 1.6L diesel and the usual mix of closing off openings in the front to reduce the drag.
Lorax said: “Jeff, As I wiped out last night because of being cut off by a car, I am particularly bothered by your comment.
Powered by a specially-calibrated version of the 90 PS 1.6-litre Duratorq TDCi and combined with coated diesel particulate filter, Ford’s most economical Fiesta can travel 100 kilometres using just 3.7 litres of fuel, on the EC combined cycle.

For instance there were frequent statements about the Jetta TDI getting 60 mpg in the European test cycle, but EPA figures give it 30/41, just a little bit better than a Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla.
Rated at a combined efficiency of 76.3mpg or 63.6mpg by U.S. standards , the EcoNetic Fiesta is also good for a rated 51.4mpg U.S. in the European city cycle and 73.6mpg U.S. on the European ‘extra-urban’, or highway cycle.
The little hatch has an optimized diesel engine that turns out a fuel efficiency rating that places it at the very top of the UK’s list of five-seaters.
Fuel economy for the ECOnetic Fiesta is 3.7 L/100km combined, or 3.2 L/100km on the highway!
This impressive fuel economy is matched with a class-leading CO2 output of 98 grams per kilometre making Fiesta ECOnetic the lowest CO2 vehicle in both its segment and Ford’s European range.

Extra-urban highway fuel consumption is 3.2 L/100km.
The Fiesta is not the first car by any means to go below the 100g per kilometer mark, with models such as the VW Polo, Seat Ibiza and Smart Fortwo having variants that emit less than this figure.
Yet while half of all cars sold in Europe last year ran on diesel, the U.S. market remains relatively unfriendly to the fuel.
But here’s the catch: Despite the car’s potential to transform Ford’s image and help it compete with Toyota Motor and Honda Motor in its home market, the company will sell the little fuel sipper only in Europe.
Revised engine calibrations, a taller final drive ratio and low rolling resistance tires yield a combined mileage rating of 65.3 mpg on the EU test cycle.
Booth argued that while customers were interested in emissions levels of cars, they had yet to reach the stage where they were willing to pay more to reduce emissions, reports Automotive News.
The engine is a 1.6-liter Duratorq TDCi that has been tweaked for efficiency.
