Lmn.tv

LMN launched on June 29, 1998 as Lifetime Movie Network. The original format of the network were longer segments of movies with limited commercial interruptions, airing twice a day. As the network grew, more commercial breaks have been added. There are now different movies each day, some repeating into the next programming day. The channel rebranded as LMN in 2006.

The first prize winner, Liliana Greenfield-Sanders of New York City, and the second prize winner, Jessica Marie Sutherland of Berea, Ohio, will have their films screened during a reception honoring them and other women filmmakers at the 2007 Hamptons International Film Festival on Saturday, October 20, from 2-4PM. Their films will premiere on LMN, the second most popular women’s network on basic cable, and will also be shown on LMN’s website, www.lmn.tv. They will also receive cash prizes (first prize: $5,000; second prize: $2,500) and have the opportunity to meet with representatives of the William Morris Agency.

Lifetime Movie Network marks its anniversary riding high, pacing on 10 consecutive months of double-digit household gains, including the record-setting mark of “The Capture of the Green River Killer,” the channel’s most-watched program ever. This past month (LMN’s most-watched May ever), the network rose 36 percent among P2+ (492,000) and 38 percent among W18+ (330,000) in prime.

Time Warner Cable’s New York City Region will provide more than $250,000 in promotional support to bring awareness of this competition to New Yorkers, whose city is home to thousands of talented local artists. Time Warner Cable will air a 30-second community message across dozens of cable networks as a call for entries, include information about the competition on its Web site, feature it in monthly e-newsletters and distribute promotional postcards at local area events and festivals.

In 2005, women comprised 17% of all directors, executive producers, producers, writers, cinematographers and editors working on the top 250 domestic grossing films. This is the same percentage of women employed in these roles in 1998 (Source: “Behind-the-Scenes Employment of Women in the Top 250 Films of 2005″ Martha M. Lauzen, Ph.D., School of Communication, San Diego State University).

Contest information is available online at http://www.LMN.tv/filmcontest, and an on-air spot encouraging women to enter the 2008 Every Woman’s Film Competition presented by Lifetime Movie Network ran during the record-setting premiere of “The Capture of the Green River Killer,” the most-watched program in Lifetime Movie Network’s 10-year history.
